Brian Zheng was born in Beijing, China in 1956. As a child he was driven to become an artist and expended a great deal of effort to pursue this dream. Being a child during the Cultural Revolution in China made it very difficult to be able to study with the best teachers, but he was successful in finding these teachers and convincing them that he was a suitable student for them. From these teachers he learned both the basic skills necessary for an artist and specialized techniques required by a good artist.
In 1978 he successfully passed the entrance exams necessary for joining the Beijing Organization of Oil Painters, within his group he was trained and inspired by some of the most famous artists in China. Also during this period he participated in several municipal exhibitions and was awarded for his paintings.
After receiving a Bachelor degree from the Department of Fine Arts at the Capital Normal University of Beijing in 1986, Brian worked for the famous MUTIANYU Great Wall Hotel. He participated with a group of artists to create their murals and interior decorations. He also freelanced during this period as a commercial artist designing magazine covers and company logos.
From 1987 to 1989 Brian was the Art Editor and graphic Designer for the internationally distributed magazine "China Pictorial".
In 1989 he immigrated to Canada and was inspired by Canadian culture to create many new works of art. He is driven by his fascination of colour and detail and his love of nature to paint in oil, portraits, landscapes and wildlife. Brian is presently a member of the Alberta Society of Artists and is actively exhibiting his paintings.
