TRAINING
A self-taught artist, she began painting in 1959 - 1960 while studying at the Normal School of Roberval. Ten years later, she worked with painter Hugh John Barrett at the Jonquière cultural centre.
Taking advantage of her educational skills, she created a drawing workshop for children aged between six and twelve years old, Personal Development by the exploration of Colours and Forms.
CAREER
In 1960, she participated in many collective exhibitions in her natal region. In 1972, she participated in an exhibition called "Les moins de 35" at the Quebec Museum. The following year, she presented paintings at the Spring Show organized by the Artisans Coopvie. In 1976, she participated another event sponsored by the Mouvement Desjardins and held in the Quebec area; the next year, another exhibition was held at Galerie d'art Charles-huot in Quebec City during the Summer Festival. In 1978, she became one of the painters of the Galerie d'art Zanettin, the gallery where was discovered the major Canadian painter Jean-Paul Lemieux.
Several other solo and group exhibitions followed thereafter.
In 2000, she came back exclusively to her painting activities. After two years of work, she returned to art galleries, namely the Galerie d'art Yvon Desgagnés in Baie-Saint-Paul, and the Galerie d'art Michel de Kerdour in Quebec City.
COLLECTIONS
Two former Quebec Prime Ministers, Jean Lesage and Jacques Parizeau, own Lise Ruel paintings among their collections.
Bell Canada and Bell International possess a Lise Ruel painting in their collection. This painting was printed in five Hundred copies as a Christmas card, sent to more than fifty countries around the world.
HONOURS
In 1976, she was awarded the First Peize at the exhibition organized by the Mouvment Desjardins by Gérard Zanettin, jury president. More than 50 painters from the Quebec City area were participating. The jury vice-president of this exhibition was Michel Champagne, director of the Quebec Museum.
Years later, she won the "Médaille des Arts" at the "Grand Prix d'Été" presided by painter Roger Cantin.

Lise Ruel is presented in the following art books:
"Guide Vallée", first edition 1983 and third edition 1993;
"Les moins de trente-cinq", edited by Médiart, with the Quebec Museum, 1973;
"Artistes du Quebec", by Irénée Lemieux, tome III, 1980.
Her art is reported in a major Book: "Art actuel au Quebec", by the art historian and creator of "Musée d'art Contemporain" of montreal, Guy Robert, published in 1983.
HER ART
Gérard Zanettin described her work as "Free Figurative" where the artist's memory and imagination play an important role.
In any format, small or large, her paintings evoke open spaces and propose many ambiances reminscing of these wonderful moments where we want time to stop. She catches it for us and she gives these ephemeral moments a taste of eternity.
The paintings of this artist are an invitation to escape; to walk in space and time, sometimes as far as childhood…
