Having arrived in Canada from Kiev in 1995, the work of Igor Postash is enjoying the avid attention of numerous North American collectors.
Igor was born in 1960, the son of Russian military parents. Living in the Ukraine, he graduated from the Department of Geography at Kiev University with a degree in Geomorphy and then worked at a research institute in Kiev. Igor has always enjoyed painting and art but it wasn't until the Chernobyl Nuclear Catastrophe in 1986 that he was able to exercise his talent as an artist. For three months he lived on site and created posters and postcards to communicate the urgency of the situation to his countrymen. His motivation was patriotic as he watched the people around him suffer from radiation sickness, cancers and the other devastating effects of the disaster. Returning to Kiev, Igor found his life turned upside down with the effects of the disaster and the collapse of the Soviet system and its information veil. When the window of immigration opened there was no question that Igor would move his family to another country. The doors were opened in Canada and since he had always been a fan of Canadian hockey and liked the red and white of the Canadian flag, Igor moved himself, his pregnant wife and daughter to Canada. To Quote Igor, " If an artist does not put his soul into a painting, the work is dead, or in better cases, the artwork becomes just a decorative spot. Every image is alive to be talked to, to give advice, to be trusted, to tell your secrets and desires and to hear theirs. Such pictures heal people, give them hope and spiritual and mental relaxation. Paintings need the spirit of the artist." He started painting in 1986. During the first four years, he sold his art in the underground passageways of the capital city of the Ukraine. |
