Voita Matousek, a Manitoba artist, was born in Czechoslovakia in 1936. He studied with Willy Zamal, the noted Czech impressionist. In 1969 Voita immigrated to Canada, living briefly in Calgary before settling in Winnipeg.
He has worked with pen, pencil, oils and acrylics but mostly in watercolours which present the greatest challenge to him. The transparent sparkle of this medium brings vibrating life to his work without sacrificing the unique craftsmanship of his drawing.
The caliber of Voita's work is best seen in his very large paintings that clearly indicate this master's perfection of the medium.
Matousek's paintings have been featured in one-man and joint exhibitions from 1978 and 1985 including seven solo shows in Eaton's Gallery of Fine Art, Fleet Gallery, Smith Galleries and Webster Galleries.
His works have been chosen from Manitoba's artists to decorate the Westin Hotel, where four originals are displayed in the Royal Suite and prints are featured in every room. His works are also part of the permanent CKRC Arts Manitoba Collection.
Visiting different areas of Canada, Voita paints from his photographs and sketches and at all times maintains the emotional quality and technique of good painting.
Matousek is an admirable and most valuable member of Canada's art community and his pieces can be found in many corporate and private collections throughout the U. S. A. and Canada. * Disciplines - Watercolour, pen, pencil, oils and acrylics.
