Mark Lubicz is a true craftsman. He trained as an architect and is a self taught artist with a focus on painting, photography, jewellery, and linoblock printing.
Linoblock prints are images carved from blocks of linoleum. Mark carves away a portion of the block, leaving a raised image of the picture. Ink is then applied evenly to this image; paper is placed on top of the block and is then put through a press or rubbed to print the coloured ink onto the paper. To complete the image this process is repeated with a new block for each colour, ensuring the registration or lining up of the paper is accurate every time. There is a long tradition of wood and linoblock printing in Canada. Many Canadian painters have used this technique in the past as an alternative art form, creating multiple originals of their work. Following this tradition, Mark is creating affordable multiple originals to be enjoyed by nature enthusiasts and art lover alike. Mark has been collected nationally and is constantly adding to his large repertoire of talents in design and colour. |
