"Kumukuluk's carvings which immediately impress with technical excellence and realistic quality are usually depicted in his favoured subjects of birds and fish. The highly polished birds have an unusual triangular effect from the sharp beaks to the talons perched on rouch hewn rock. Kumukuluk, through his carvings has travelled extensively throughout eastern Canada and also visited the United States. These trips have obviously enhanced his work, for although never straying too far from his Inuit heritage, an occasional glimpse of other influences and characteristics can be observed in his more creative pieces. It has been said by many authorities in the art world that Kumukuluk Saggiak is one of the most important artists to come out of Canada's north in the last decade."
