David has a life long appreciation for art in many mediums and styles. This interest has fueled his explorations into a variety of arts and crafts. A single evening's workshop, sponsored by the town of Mayerthorpe's Community Learning Association in the early 1990's, introduced him to sculpting soapstone. This has blossomed into a great love of both the material and for working in three dimensions.

As benefits an artist who is largely self taught, each piece is an act of exploration and new skills and techniques are constantly being learned. Limitations and potentials of media are tested. Each new discovery adds to the tools available for realizing the visions in the mind's eye and to increasing the quality of form and finish.

At this time, David's primary interests are in working stone, like soapstone, alabaster, serpentine and marble. They are ideal materials in which to execute the gentle curves and flowing lines that invite the hand to touch and the eye to linger.

David was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1955 and has lived in a variety of towns and cities in central, northern and western Canada. Currently he lives and teaches in Calgary and is inspired by the mountains and wildlife, which are so close to the city.
