In 1990 Mark made a clean break from the graphic design industry to devote his time to painting.
The style for which he has become recognized actually began as an escape from the intensity of the high realism wildlife of which he planned to make a career. In a moment of clarity he realized that others could also enjoy this escape and he decided that this would become what he would share.
In Mark's paintings just bout anything can happen – a corner store can become and egg carton, a building will twist with a turn in the weather, a violin shop will simultaneously attract and terrify the neighbourhood cats.
Mark tends to work with predominately older subject matter – old character laden buildings, abandoned gas pumps etc.… Signifying the past, a number of cobwebs are always scattered throughout his work. In the spirit of fun, he challenges you to find them all. How many should you look for? Check the number by his signature.
Breathing life back into old structures and objects around us that have been taken for granted for too long is something Mark loves. You won't see them quite the same way after Mark has been at them.
Bending the lines as with bending the rules makes way for greater freedom and a lot more fun.
