WHERE Magazine (Jan/Feb 2000) wrote:
'Canadian heritage scenes from our past have been the inspiration for John Bristow, whose life experiences have included everything from sailing on the Pacific (in a gale) to flying jets in the air force. He describes his work as photo-realism. Using extensive research he painstakingly recreates detailed and accurate scenes of prairie and other images. His rich, saturated colours reflect the vibrancy of the land and elicit an emotional response from the viewer.

He is especially proud of his association with people who have offered photographs of their experiences to be turned into stories. Many of his pieces come with accompanying documentation that details the story behind them.'

VENUE Magazine, 1999 Art Expo edition wrote:
'A self-taught realist oil painter with deep roots in Manitoba, John Bristow incorporates his experiences along with those of others into his art. From flying military aircraft to sailing a ketch in a Pacific gale, from Victoria Jason's navigation of Arctic ice floes to his father's shot of the 'Canadian' passing over the Nipigon River Bridge, all form a basis for his work.

Because the scenes portrayed in his art must pass close scrutiny of experts, his process includes thoroughly researching a scene before painting the picture, then having experts critique it and make any suggested changes before he considers it a completed work. Of 11 limited editions, two have sold out. All tell stories, which he relates in the documentation included with each of his prints.'
