Pierre Bourgouin was born in Montreal in 1953. He has been drawing since his early childhood and his favorite hobby has been to create all kinds of imaginary worlds with colours and pencils.

Pierre took every art course available in high school and kept studying fine arts at the St. Laurent College. While studying for his academic degree, he specialized in the field of illustration with the Famous Artists School's courses.

Fascinated by comic art, he created a character of his own which was published daily in one of Montreal's major newspapers.

Interested by very old techniques and crafts, he studied traditional Byzantine iconography following the Greek methods. These studies helped him master using egg tempera and gold leaves techniques.

While pursuing his career he developed an understanding of oil painting methods by studying the old master's approach given originally by Mr. Nicholas Wacker, Paris, France. Pierre took courses in academic drawing and traditional watercolours with Mr. Lessie Coppold, RCA, whose style had a strong influence on him.

Pierre has done many commissions including portraits. He participated in a portrait workshop given by the American portrait painter Daniel Greene.

He has since been teaching painting, illustration and drawing while pursuing the development of his own career as a professional artist. Bourgouin is an admirer of the Group of Seven and Canadian Artists like T. Forrestall, S. Kurelek and A. Colville particularly fascinate him.
