Dominique Alain was born in Ancienne-Lorette and now resides in the old part of the city of Quebec. Artistically inclined in her heart, she started painting in watercolour in 1985 and has deepened her practice of this medium through the years; she is now fully involved with this art form since 1999. She has an average of ten exhibits per year and every year, she organizes and exhibition in Charlesbourg.
Dominique received brief instruction in the plastic arts at the Ste-Foy College, and completed two sessions of watercolour techniques. She has developed her own style, which is technically original as well as formally unique and demonstrates a remarkably varied grasp of the different possibilities of the watercolour expression.
Having acquired an under-graduate degree in Quebec literature and literary creation, she invests the watercolour paper with the same approach one brings to the writing paper, letting the imagination flow on its whiteness. In fact, the title of each watercolour tells a distinct story. Dominique is a self described autodidact who submits to sudden inspiration, espouses the freshness of spontaneity. Her watercolours are the fruits of her imagination, vibrating with colours, filled with a breezy poetry and a surprising originality!
With a style all her own, Dominique Alain is an artist worth exploring!
